01 / WHAT IS A DOULA?
In short, a doula is a woman who emotionally supports another woman during birth. She is trained in various techniques to provide physical comfort and assist the woman with positioning, and she can help to protect the birthing woman’s wishes according to her birth plan. Postpartum doulas have training in assisting families with the transition after the baby is born, including education on newborn care and light housework. This can help to prevent and ease the baby blues.
02 / AT WHAT POINT IN PREGNANCY SHOULD I CONTACT A DOULA?
As soon as possible! Our doulas can only book so many clients at a time according to their availability. To choose the doula who is the best fit with your personality, call us to schedule a free consultation at any time in your pregnancy. Another advantage is benefitting from prenatal support and building the relationship between you and your doula during your pregnancy. Of course if you are further along, we always have at least one doula available.
03 / HOW WILL HAVING A BIRTH DOULA PRESENT IMPACT MY PARTNER?
The laboring woman needs to know that her husband or partner is there for her, and that they are on this journey together. A doula encourages fathers and partners to be the primary source of emotional support and does not attempt to replace the partner’s role. They can be reassured that the doula will offer practical suggestions, information, and techniques as needed, which allows partners to be much more relaxed, loving, and emotionally present. A doula can offer partners helpful tips along the way and make it possible for partners to take much needed breaks.
04 / HOW DO DOULAS WORK WITH MEDICAL STAFF?
A certified doula does not perform any medical procedures, but she does work collaboratively with the hospital staff to create a supportive team atmosphere during your labor and birth. An experienced doula knows how to create good rapport with your nurses, midwives, and doctors while simultaneously advocating for your choices, needs, and desires. A doula helps you to voice your needs and wishes without becoming confrontational or disrespectful, and she works to maintain the delicate balance between respecting hospital protocols and ensuring your autonomy.
05 / WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT THEIR PLACENTA IN CAPSULES?
Placenta encapsulation is the process of encapsulating a placenta through steaming, dehydrating, grinding dehydrated placenta into a power, and filling capsules. There are many reasons why one would want to partake in the numerous benefits of placentophagy. Pregnancy is taxing on the body, even if the mother follows the best of health regimes. The theory behind placentophagy is that you’re returning the nutrients lost during the birth process back to the body to aid in quick and smooth postpartum recovery.
06 / IS PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION SAFE?
Yes. Our placenta encapsulationists are trained in how to safely dehydrate and prepare the placenta pills. In fact, our facility is housed with an OBGYN giving us access to stainless steel medical-grade equipment. This is quite the standard above the practice of preparing the placenta in one’s own home kitchen environment.
