Acupuncture is more than 2,500 years old and is among the oldest healing practices in the world.  As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture restores and maintains health through the stimulation of specific points on the body, called acupuncture points.  By inserting sterile, hair thin, disposable needles the acupuncture points are stimulated.  This restores the natural balance and smooth flow of Qi (“Chi” energy) through the body. This also sets the stage for the body to repair itself and maintain its own health. Our bodies are constantly seeking homeostasis and acupuncture assists this process. How can acupuncture help your pregnancy and beyond?

Acupuncture is a great addition to your overall wellness during pregnancy because it eases a wide span of pregnancy related symptoms such as heartburn, swelling in the legs, constipation, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, and more.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the mother’s body to ready itself for labor. Needling will encourage the body to naturally release prostaglandins to soften and ripen the cervix for labor, and oxytocin to trigger contractions. Because the body produces its own hormones, and the process in natural, the mother and child will experience a gradual, less-traumatic onset of labor. Most women who have reached full gestation will need only one to three treatments before labor occurs.

During labor, acupuncture can be used for pain relief, as a calming technique (which again will lessen pain) and to keep labor contractions going during a stalled labor. Some acupuncture practices support the procedure not only as a way to keep women relaxed, but also to shorten labor.

We focus on stabilizing the nervous system and correction of the spine in an effort to improve the body at the source of the imbalance. Rather than treat in a compartmentalized fashion we work to restore the body and correct the underlying foundation. The nervous system is the master communication system to all the body systems including the reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more effectively.

On your initial visit the chiropractor will consult with you, examine you and recommend a treatment plan that will best suit your needs. We will work with you to specifically address how we will integrate structural correction. Each visit is intended to help you achieve optimal structural and nervous system function. Get relief and make life changes!

Our Webster Certified chiropractors will work with you and your changing body. Trained specifically to help with pelvic balance and alignment providing you with safe and effective care during your pregnancy. By treating subluxations and aligning the spine, the brain is better able to communicate with the rest of your body, which means more stable hormone levels, fewer headaches, less nausea, and more. Our Webster technique treatments are 55-min in length to achieve optimal results.

Chiropractic care can play an integral role in birth preparation to facilitate safer, easier birthing for both moms & their babies.

1. Relieve joint and muscle pain. Studies show that 87% of pregnant women experience low back pain. Chiropractors restore a woman’s optimal spinal alignment and relieve aches, pains, and even nausea associated with pregnancy.

2. Reduce labor and delivery time. By restoring a woman’s natural posture and alignment, many women have experienced shortened and less complicated labor and deliveries following regular chiropractic care throughout their pregnancies.

3. Healthier pregnancy for both mother and child. Safe alignment of a woman’s spine and pelvis, ensures that there will be enough room for her growing baby. Additionally, calming and pain-relieving techniques provided to the mother can positively impact the hormonal and neurological influences she has on her child.

Prenatal Reiki is a beautiful gift to mother and baby.  Prenatal Reiki treatments can enhance the connection between mother and baby, provide energetic support for a healthy pregnancy, prepare for birth and help relieve discomfort associated with pregnancy.  “Reiki babies” are said to be very ‘zen’ babies, with mothers reporting their babies to be calmer and less fussy than other babies. Scientifically there is evidence for this, as successful Reiki treatments result in lowered stress hormones in the mother and therefore the baby. A postpartum combined Reiki session with mom or dad and baby can help strengthen bonding and support recovery from birth.

Our Registered Dietitian knows there how much there is to consider in when providing a healthy, safe, nourishing environment for both baby and mother both before and after delivery. Proper nutrition is key to supporting your growing and developing baby.

Getting to know your body and the signs associated with your most fertile days is an important aspect of your sexual health. Our Certified Fertility Counselor helps clients at the beginning of the journey. If you want to become pregnant it will help you to achieve those results more quickly. If you want to avoid having children, understanding your fertility will enable you to avoid having unprotected intercourse during your peak fertile times.

Seeking the help of a fertility specialist is recommended when a couple has been unable to conceive within a year. If you are over the age of 35, time is of greater importance as successful conception becomes more and more unlikely as we age. Infertility affects at least 1 in 5 couples.

Luckily, the majority of couples who suffer from fertility will find help – usually through finding the right fertility clinic and or doctor where infertility therapy can begin. Some couples will adopt, some will decide upon surrogacy and many will eventually time conception just right and manage it without outside help. Our Certified Fertility Counselor will teach you about fertility and infertility as well as the alternative options available.

It aids in creating a peaceful womb atmosphere for the baby and zen mind for mother.

Through centering meditation, the flow of pranayama helps the mother to breathe better as the baby moves up into the ribs and lungs. The goal is an added awareness of how the body works to create this child, to bear this child, and deliver with confidence with motherly caring strength.

Placenta encapsulation is the process of encapsulating a placenta through steaming, dehydrating, grinding dehydrated placenta into a power, and filling capsules. There are many reasons why one would want to partake in the numerous benefits of placentophagy. Pregnancy is taxing on the body, even if the mother follows the best of health regimes. The theory behind placentophagy is that you’re returning the nutrients lost during the birth process back to the body to aide in quick and smooth postpartum recovery.

• Decrease baby blues and postpartum depression
• Increase and enrich breast milk
• Increase in energy
• Decrease postpartum bleeding
• Decrease iron deficiency

The role of a mumda™ doula includes:

Assisting the woman to prepare and carry out her birth plan
Staying with the woman throughout the labor
Providing emotional support and physical comfort measures
Communicating between the laboring woman, her partner and clinical care providers
Delivering information to make informed decisions before, during and after birth
Allowing the woman’s partner to participate at his/her comfort level

Let mumda™ help you ease into the 4th trimester. Similar to a birth doula, postpartum doulas offer families education, companionship, and support during what is sometimes called the ‘fourth trimester’ – that sometimes emotional time after a child is born.  They promote time for infant and family bonding while creating a sense of balance during your recovery period.

Postpartum doula services are tailored to meet your needs and can include newborn care, breastfeeding support, postnatal rehab, assistance with family adjustment, emotional support, sibling care, light housekeeping, and more. One particularly helpful part of the service is supporting mom during the ‘baby blues.’  mumda™ postpartum doulas help navigate what can be a delicate time, including connecting mom with helpful resources and attending postpartum visits if necessary. Research evidence shows that the quality services of a postpartum doula can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to a family, improve parental satisfaction and reduce the risk of mood disorders.

All mumda doulas are certified through DONA International, the oldest, largest and most respected doula certification program worldwide. The vigorous standards ensure that not just any person can become a DONA Certified doula. It is difficult and time-consuming to complete this certification. We recommend that anyone who hires a doula chooses someone who has completed this important study. Without the regulation provided by DONA International, consumers simply cannot be ensured of the highest standard and quality.  At mumda education is our focus and our team of doulas are continually on the front edge of continuing education, keeping up with the latest techniques in the field.  We proudly support families of all types, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and cultural and religious backgrounds.
